The Toba Batak: Fihgting for Environmental Justice (1988 to 2003)
The Toba Batak: Fighting for Environmental Justice (1988–2003) examines the struggle of the Toba Batak community to defend environmental rights amid industrial expansion and state development policies between 1988 and 2003. The book analyzes environmental conflicts, community resistance, and advocacy efforts grounded in indigenous identity, customary land rights, and social justice. It highlights how local communities organized collective action, engaged legal and non-legal strategies, and built alliances to protect land, forests, and natural resources. This work contributes significantly to discussions on environmental justice, indigenous movements, and the relationship between development, power, and human rights in Indonesia.
