First call for children: World declaration and plan of action from the world summit for children : convention on the rights of the child
First Call for Children brings together two landmark international instruments that shaped the global movement for children’s rights: the World Declaration and Plan of Action from the World Summit for Children (1990) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC, 1989). The publication outlines the world’s collective commitment to improving children’s survival, protection, and development through measurable goals and coordinated action. It emphasizes the principles of universality, non-discrimination, and the best interests of the child as guiding standards for national and international policy. The text also provides a framework for governments and civil society to monitor progress in areas such as health, education, nutrition, and child protection. Serving as both a political declaration and a legal foundation, this document remains a cornerstone reference for global advocacy and implementation of children’s rights.
