Emerging Issues in Asia: Panel II: Strengthening Democracy Through Women's Political Participation
The book Emerging Issues in Asia – Panel II: Strengthening Democracy Through Women’s Political Participation explores the critical role of women in advancing democratic governance across Asia. It examines how increasing women’s representation in political institutions contributes to more inclusive decision-making, equitable policy outcomes, and the strengthening of democratic values. Through comparative case studies and regional analyses, the work highlights both structural and cultural barriers that hinder women’s political empowerment, such as patriarchal norms, limited access to resources, and institutional bias. At the same time, it showcases successful strategies and policy innovations that have enabled greater gender equality in politics. This publication ultimately argues that genuine democratic consolidation in Asia depends on ensuring women’s full and meaningful participation in all levels of political life.
