Rule of law for human rights in the ASEAN region : a base-line study
This baseline study examines the relationship between the rule of law and the protection of human rights within the ASEAN region. It provides a comprehensive overview of the legal frameworks, institutional mechanisms, and political contexts that shape the implementation of human rights standards in member states. The study highlights both progress and persistent challenges, including issues of judicial independence, access to justice, accountability of state institutions, and the role of civil society. By offering comparative insights across ASEAN countries, the publication establishes a foundation for monitoring developments and promoting reforms aimed at strengthening the rule of law as a cornerstone for human rights protection. It serves as a reference for policymakers, academics, and human rights practitioners seeking to advance justice and democratic governance in Southeast Asia.
