Democratizing local budgeting processes in Bone district
Democratizing Local Budgeting Processes in Bone District examines efforts to make local governance in Bone, South Sulawesi, more transparent, accountable, and participatory through reforms in the budgeting process. The study highlights how civil society organizations, women’s groups, and community leaders engaged with local government to advocate for inclusive decision-making and gender-responsive budgeting.
It documents both the achievements—such as increased public awareness, greater community involvement, and initial steps toward gender mainstreaming—and the challenges, including bureaucratic resistance, limited capacity, and entrenched political interests. By analyzing these dynamics, the work provides valuable insights into how participatory budgeting can strengthen local democracy and ensure that public spending better reflects the needs of marginalized groups.
