The African Journal on Conflict Resolution – Special Issue on Gender and Transitional Justice in Africa explores the intersection of gender, justice, and post-conflict reconstruction on the African continent. The contributions in this volume analyze how transitional justice mechanisms—such as truth commissions, reparations, and legal reforms—address or overlook women’s experiences during and after conflict. It highlights the persistent challenges of gender inequality, sexual violence, and exclusion from decision-making, while also documenting women’s agency and leadership in peacebuilding and reconciliation. By combining theoretical insights with case studies from different African countries, this special issue advances debates on how transitional justice can become more inclusive, transformative, and responsive to women’s rights.
