Indonesian Women in the Political Economics and Social Transition: Notes from 40 indonesian NGOs for the special session of the UN general assembly "women 2000: gender equality, development and peace"
Indonesian Women in the Political, Economic and Social Transition presents collective reflections from 40 Indonesian NGOs on the conditions and struggles of women during a critical period of national transformation. Prepared as part of Indonesia’s contribution to the UN General Assembly Special Session “Women 2000: Gender Equality, Development and Peace,” the book documents how women experience and respond to rapid changes in politics, the economy, and society after the fall of the New Order regime. It highlights issues such as women’s political participation, labor rights, economic marginalization, access to education and health, and the impact of conflict and violence against women. At the same time, it emphasizes the role of civil society in advocating gender equality and pushing for democratic reforms. By bringing together diverse voices from across Indonesia, this work underscores both the challenges and the resilience of Indonesian women in shaping a more just, inclusive, and peaceful society.
