Legislation Explained: The Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012
Domestic and family violence affects individuals, families and
communities. There are substantial human and economic costs as
a result of the impacts of physical and emotional trauma, with adult’s
and children’s educational, social and work lives disrupted, and
increased risk of becoming homeless.
The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability
Services provides and funds a range of initiatives to protect people
from domestic and family violence, including prevention and early
intervention programs, community education and research, and
services including court support, specialist counselling for adults
and children, and a state-wide telephone helpline.
The phone numbers for domestic and family violence services are
included in the back of this booklet.
