Polygamy is a marriage with more than one partner. This could be practiced by men or women. Marriage of men with more than one woman is called a Polygyny. While marriage of a woman with more than one man is called polyandry. In Indonesia itself, polygyny is considered common by some couples, and allowed with certain requirements. Polygyny itself is known only as polygamy. Law on Marriage No. 1/1974 allows polygamy for a man with the condition that he had received prior consent from his !irst wife and if the wife has disability or incurable illness. However, the opposite is not valid, for a wife, is her husband is disabled
