Cotton Field: Proposals for analysis and monitoring of the "cotton Field case sentence. regarding human rights violations commited by the Mexican State
On December 10, 2009, the day that commemorates the ratification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights issued the judgment on the "Cotton Field" Case, condemning the Mexican State for violating the human rights of three women who disappeared, were tortured and murdered in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, as well as for the violation of the human rights of their mothers and next to kin.
The objective of this publication is to aid closer understanding of the contents and the monitoring of the judgment. Points and proposals that seek to facilitate analysis and debate of the sentence are highlighted. However, principally, it seeks to encourage action by civil organizations on the issue, but that is by all organizations and individuals that want to bring about social change within the human rights framework. Detailed monitoring is required to guarantee that the sentence is complied with in the time and manner dictated by the Court
