Komnas Perempuan - Organizational Body;

This Country Report is written for the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Migrants, Gabriella Rodriguez, on the occasion of her first consultative meeting with non-government organizations from Asia. This meeting, held on 2-3 June 2002, was facilitated by CARAM Asia in Kuala Lumpur.
This report attempts to provide the UN Special Rapporteur with data and analysis on the situation of Indonesian migrant workers. It includes information on the incidence, nature and impact of abuse and exploitation that Indonesian women and men experience when they enter the process of crossing national borders to seek employment.
The production of this report is a collective effort, involving diverse organizations and concerned individuals. They are Pande Ketut Trimayuni (CARAM Indonesia), Salma Safitri (Solidaritas Perempuan), Wahyu Soesilo (KOPBUMI), Julia Suryakusuma (independent researcher), Riwanto (Indonesian Institute of Science - LIPI), and Kamala Chandrakirana (National Commission on Violence Against Women - Komnas Perempuan).The report is written based on the premise that the poor and women must be guaranteed their right to work and freedom of movement, including to work outside their home country, and that the fulfillment of these rights should not be gotten at the cost of the loss of other basic rights, such as the right to live without fear, torture and violence, and the right to life itself.
