Transforming Conflict: Search for Common Ground
In the world today violent conflict often coalesces due to resource and land disputes leading to humanitarian crises. The Natural Resources, Conflict, and Humanitarian Challenges: Lessons from Community-Based Conflict Transformation report addresses problems facing those three critical fields and calls for collaboration among stakeholders to create cross-cutting solutions that are highly effective with a wider impact. It comprehensively identifies current practical problems, provides implementable solutions, and addresses challenges to them. Multi-layered solutions addressing conflict, humanitarian, and environmental issues can help transform conflicts ranging from fishing disputes in the Democratic Republic of Congo to ethnic clashes over oil field compensation in Sudan. The report concludes with a series of key insights about both opportunities and challenges, and recommends specific entry points for strengthened collaboration.
