Breaking the earthenware jar: lessons from South Asia to end violence against women and girls
This book turns the spotlight on such violence, and poses challenging questions: how best to address troubling issues like selective female foeticide, child neglect and abuse - including sexual abuse? How to learn more about the ralities in the family behind problems related to gender roles and relations, such as beating in pregnancy, incest and murder - including so-called "dowr death", "stove-burning", and honour killing"? and are there higher proportions of girls and women committing suicide than would be expected? If so, why? These are things we all would prefer did not occur anywhere. But they do.
