Trafficking In Person Report
The June 2008 edition of the Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP Report), published by the United States Department of State, is a global annual report evaluating the efforts of governments worldwide to combat human trafficking. The teal cover, with cut-out images of the eyes of various individuals, symbolically emphasizes the human dimension of the trafficking issue and the diversity of victims across age, gender, and country of origin. It provides a comprehensive analysis of patterns and trends in trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced labor, mapping countries of origin, transit, and destination, and assessing each country's compliance with the minimum standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) through a Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 2 Watch List, and Tier 3 ranking system. The report highlights good practices in prevention, victim protection, and prosecution of perpetrators, while identifying institutional weaknesses, corruption, and impunity that hinder law enforcement. The 2008 edition places particular emphasis on the demands that drive trafficking, the vulnerability of migrant workers, and the trafficking of children into military service. Aimed at governments, diplomats, policymakers, law enforcement officials, and international organizations, the TIP Report serves as a key diplomatic and advocacy tool for promoting state accountability and strengthening global cooperation in eradicating modern slavery.
