Valuing soil's economic worth

Matthew Dimal - Personal Name; Mattew Dimal - Personal Name;

This reseach has been focused on understanding soil value and the process of soil valuation, particulary on the growing role of stakeholder participation, spatial data, physical modelling, and pedometric attributes in estimating value. Different non-market valuation techniques were used to estimate soil value and to better understand significant attributes affecting economic worth. Various economic frameworks and value types relevant to soil were reviewed, and critical discussion on the use and limitations of soil economic value was also provided. Aside from providing estimates of soil value, this reseach has yield important methodological and policy-related implications, including (a) the emphasis on the objectives of the study rather than a push for a universal structure; (b) the importance of matching valuation techniques with the intended value type and the contexts of the study area; (c) a proposal for new typology of soil value; (d) the critical role of stakeholder participation in the valuation process and soil use management; and (e) the expanding part of spatial data and modelling in the valuation process.
