State Violence Against Women in Asia Pacific
State violence against women in the Asia-Pacific region is a critical issue that involves both direct and indirect actions by state actors, as well as discriminatory policies. This form of violence includes excessive use of force by law enforcement, criminalization of victims, restrictions on reproductive rights, and the failure of states to provide adequate legal protection. These problems are often rooted in patriarchal norms, weak law enforcement, and gender-insensitive public policies. Women from vulnerable groups—such as ethnic minorities, migrants, and activists—face higher risks of experiencing such violence. Therefore, policy reforms, increased state accountability, and stronger protection mechanisms are essential to safeguard women’s rights. These efforts are crucial for promoting justice, equality, and effective protection for women across the Asia-Pacific region.
