Maid to Order: Ending Abuses againts Migrant Domestic Workers in Singapore
This book examines the conditions faced by migrant domestic workers in Singapura and documents various forms of abuse and exploitation occurring within the domestic work sector. Based on interviews, case studies, and policy analysis, the report highlights problems such as excessive working hours, unpaid wages, restrictions on movement, and physical or psychological abuse by employers. It also analyzes structural issues including restrictive immigration policies, dependence on employers for legal status, and limited legal protections for domestic workers. The book ultimately calls for legal reforms, stronger enforcement mechanisms, and improved labor protections to ensure the rights, safety, and dignity of migrant domestic workers.
