Indonesian Migrant Domestic Workers: Their Vulnerabilities and New Initiatives for the Protection of Their Rights
This book examines the structural and situational vulnerabilities faced by Indonesian migrant domestic workers, including exploitation in recruitment processes, debt bondage, restricted mobility, excessive working hours, and exposure to abuse and discrimination in destination countries. It highlights how gender, migration status, and informal employment arrangements intersect to heighten their risk of rights violations. In addition to documenting these challenges, the book explores emerging legal reforms, bilateral agreements, grassroots organizing efforts, and advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening protection mechanisms and promoting the recognition of migrant domestic workers’ rights at national and international levels.
