Who Kills Whom and Why: Looking Beyond Legal Categories
In this work, Jenny Morgan challenges conventional legal classifications of homicide by examining the social contexts, gender dynamics, and power relations that shape who kills and under what circumstances. The book argues that legal categories often obscure crucial differences between types of killings—such as domestic violence–related homicide, self-defense, and systemic abuse—thereby reinforcing biases within the justice system. By drawing on case studies and feminist legal analysis, Morgan highlights how structural inequalities, histories of victimization, and societal attitudes influence both violent acts and their legal interpretation, calling for more nuanced frameworks that better reflect lived realities and promote substantive justice.
