Overcoming Violent Conflict: Peace and Development Analysis in Maluku and North Maluku
This book examines the causes, dynamics, and impacts of violent conflict in Maluku and North Maluku, focusing on how religious polarization, political competition, economic inequalities, and weak state capacity escalated communal violence in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It analyzes patterns of displacement, segregation, and the breakdown of intercommunal relations, as well as the influence of militias and security responses on the conflict trajectory. The study also highlights peacebuilding initiatives, including local reconciliation efforts, power-sharing arrangements, and development programs aimed at rebuilding trust and social cohesion, arguing that long-term stability requires inclusive governance, equitable resource distribution, and sustained interfaith dialogue.
